What to Expect

This retreat is shaped around simple, evidence-informed approaches to supporting the nervous system, combining gentle movement, rest and time in nature.

Step away from the noise of daily life and enter a space where time slows down, your breath deepens and your mind can finally rest. Set in the inspiring mountain landscape of Bad Gastein, this yoga and hiking retreat is designed to gently guide you back into balance—through movement, stillness and meaningful connection with nature.

Surrounded by fresh alpine air and breathtaking scenery, you will experience the calming power of mindful hiking, also known as pleasure hiking. There is no rush, no pressure—just a soft invitation to walk at a natural pace, to notice the rhythm of your steps and to fully immerse yourself in the beauty around you.

A special highlight of this retreat is the presence of the famous Gastein waterfall. Its powerful yet soothing sound creates a naturally calming atmosphere that can help reduce stress and quiet the mind. The fine mist in the air enriches it with negative ions, which are known to support respiratory health, improve mood and enhance overall well-being. Simply spending time near the waterfall can feel both invigorating and deeply grounding.

Our guided forest bathing sessions offer a restorative way to reconnect with the natural world. Through gentle, sensory-based practices, you will learn to slow down, engage your senses and absorb the quiet strength of the forest. This practice supports stress reduction, strengthens the immune system and promotes our nervous system to calm down.

Each day, our yoga practice is inspired by the four elements—air, earth, fire and water. These sessions are thoughtfully designed to reflect the qualities of each element: lightness and breath for air, stability and grounding for earth, strength and transformation for fire and fluidity and release for water. This approach allows you to experience balance on a deeper level, harmonizing body, mind and energy.

All yoga sessions are gentle and suitable for all levels. They focus on releasing tension, improving mobility and cultivating a sense of ease within the body. Combined with guided meditation, you will be supported in calming the mind, grounding your energy and reconnecting with a deeper sense of presence.

This retreat is not about performance or achievement. It is about allowing yourself to pause, to breathe and to simply be. Whether you are seeking relief from stress, a deeper connection to nature, or a mindful reset, this experience offers a nurturing space for renewal.

You will leave feeling more relaxed, more centered and more connected—to yourself and to the natural world around you. You will take some tools home with you for sustainable stress reduction, inner peace and even strengthen your immune system.

Take this time for yourself. Your well-being deserves it.

After the morning yoga class inside with fantastic Mountain views, the sessions are experiential and quiet in nature. You can expect a blend of guided yoga, breath awareness and reflective space, alongside time to slow down and notice what your body needs. There is no pressure to share or participate in a certain way. Older people are just as welcome as younger people who long for a break.

Elements of shinrin yoku practices are included, supporting relaxation through time spent in quiet natural surroundings.

Alongside the guided sessions, the natural setting of Bad Gastein plays a central role. Time in the mountains, gentle walks and access to thermal water and spa facilities support a slower rhythm and deeper rest.

There is space throughout the retreat for stillness, integration and simply being away from the pace of everyday life.

Guided Yoga and Gentle Movement

Daily sessions are centred around slow, accessible yoga and mindful movement, designed to support the nervous system and release physical tension. Practices are suitable for all levels and focus on breath, mobility and ease rather than intensity.

Thermal Spa and Kneipp Experience

Time in the spa is an integral part of the retreat. You will have access to thermal pools, Kneipp water therapy (alternating warm and cold water), saunas and quiet rest areas. These practices support circulation, recovery and deep relaxation in a calm, unhurried environment.

Mountain Walks and Nature Time

Guided and self-paced walks take place along mountain paths, waterfalls and forest trails surrounding Bad Gastein. Lift access allows you to reach higher elevations with ease, where open views across the Alps create space to pause and rest. Some sessions may take place outdoors, including time on the Stubnerkogel, where yoga is practised with panoramic mountain views.

Sound Journey

A guided sound session offers space to rest while immersed in calming tones and vibrations. This experience is designed to support relaxation and help settle the nervous system, with participants free to lie down or sit comfortably.

Nourishing Meals

Daily breakfast and dinner are provided, with a focus on balanced, satisfying meals. Shared dining offers a relaxed space to eat, connect if you wish and enjoy the simple rhythm of the day.

Rest and Integration

Unstructured time is built into each day, allowing space to pause, reflect, or simply rest. Whether spending time in the spa, sitting outdoors, or enjoying quiet moments alone, this time supports integration and a slower rhythm.

Carola Wendt will guide you through the Yoga & Hiking Retreat in the Alpenblick. She is a yoga coach and nature lover with passion and in this course also your hiking companion.

Carola felt the health-promoting properties of yoga at an early age and already got her back pain under control as a student with yoga. Later in her professional life, yoga helped her to stay focused on special challenges and to cope with stress. Meanwhile, Carola has over 500 hours of yoga teacher training according to (AYA) and is a trained yoga therapist (individual sessions can be booked). The focus is on hatha and yin yoga, senior and business yoga, relaxation and burnout prevention.

"I look forward to accompanying you not only with a relaxing yoga program, but especially at this magical place. Bad Gastein has a magical charm for me and the waterfall in the middle of the village always amazes me. The air is uniquely good and especially recommended for all people with breathing difficulties. The radon-containing thermal water from the mountains is unique and can help wonderfully with many ailments. The mountains, the water, the views and huts just like in a picture book.”

First yoga experiences are desirable, but not a prerequisite.
